Gup level tests
Generally there are two signatures on gup level tests, one from the school instructor and one from the chief instructor.
If the chief instructor chooses to do so, they can sign without the school instructor. Although the school instructor generally does sign, they do not have to.
If by chance the chief instructor signature cannot be obtained, there needs to be either a master instructor or CMA director sign the document. If they are not available then the school instructor and 2 other black belt instructors must sign document. (This would only happen in case of accident or other circumstance.)
Dan level tests
There has to be 3 signatures on any dan level test, one by the school instructor, one by the chief instructor, and one from master instructor.
If the school instructor is the one testing, the signatures would include the chief instructor, master instructor, and a CMA director (preferably the director of that style).
In the event of a higher level test, the signatures would be from master instructors and CMA directors.
Master level (4th dan) will be signed by CMA directors.
Directors of the CMA are high ranking officials, they can sign the certificate in two places if no other instructor is available to sign it, for example as director and master instructor.
Generally on any certificate, the signature should be from at least a 2nd dan.
